BBC One – Addicted to Pleasure

How I love BBC’s documentaries! I came across this video not too long ago, when I was following the BBC show, “World’s Strictest Parents – UK Edition” on YouTube. This was one of the videos that came up on the playlist. I should really wonder about how the two are related, but then again, that would require me to digress. And you all know how much I hate doing that, right? Hehe.

The fact that the BBC is renowned for it’s beautifully filmed documentaries about the earth and its inhabitants is certainly well known, and I bear testimonial to it. When we were children, we used to be treated to documentaries narrated by world famous naturalist Sir David Attenborough; his  insightful voice and the stupendous visuals, enthralling my sister and me.

This time round, it is Brian Cox doing the narration as he takes us along on his journey of discovering the legend of Whisky and its significance across the globe. Today, whisky is a source of Scottish pride; it’s one of the UK’s few growth industries. In this episode, Brian Cox reveals how whisky was born and shaped in opposition to the British tax system, and how that history forged the character of Scotland’s national drink.

I was captivated. Flawless presentation, flawless content, making you exclaim and wonder along with Brian. You might find yourself reaching out to the screen, like, “Be a buddy, pass me that dram!”. In such moments, reach out to your favourite brand of Whisky, lean back in your plush chair, swirl your drink around in your glass (the whiskey stones adding to the music) and watch this documentary. I highly recommend it, and of course, Black Dog.
